World Championships bronze-medallist Lakshya Sen has advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's singles of the All England Badminton Championships by defeating world number three Anders Antonsen in straight games here on Thursday, but India's women's singles challenge has come to an end with PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal losing in the second round.

The 20-year-old Sen of Almora, who won the India Open title in January this year and runner-up of the German Open last week, has also won 21-16, 21-18 over third-ranked Antonsen. Antonsen is a 2-time medalist at the World Championships. Sen and Antonsen faced each other for the first time at the international level. In the quarterfinals, Sen will face China's Lu Guang-Ju, who defeated 8th ranked Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong 21-10, 21-11.

In the women's singles, however, India has faced disappointment. Two-time Olympic medallists Sindhu and Saina continued their poor run and both have suffered defeats in the three-game-long battles. Sixth-ranked Sindhu has also lost 19-21, 21-16, 17-21 to Japan's low-ranked player Sayaka Takahashi. The match lasted one hour and six minutes.
