NEW DELHI: Former union minister and renowned Dalit face of Punjab, Vijay Sampla, a senior BJP leader, has been re-elected as Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for the second time.

"In my second term, I would work to address all socioeconomic issues that Dalits confront, particularly those that affect the poor, marginalised, and illiterate," Sampla said to reporters on Tuesday. "I will also ensure that the Dalits are treated fairly by the federal and state governments." President Ram Nath Kovind named Sampla as the Chairman of the NCSC.

He said that during his first time as Chairman of the NCSC, he endeavored to resolve every Dalit complaint, and that special court session were held to guarantee that all cases were heard and that correct orders were given to achieve justice.

A rul Sampla further stated that he will continue to make recommendations to the President of India on behalf of the commission for the redress of injustice, exploitation, and other matters impacting Dalits as and when required.

Among those who congratulated Sampla on his appointment were Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, former chairman of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Manjeet Singh Sirsa, and BJP MPs Sunita Duggal and Sudhanshu Trivedi.
