Lucknow: On Saturday, Senior Congress leader and Chhattisgarh's Agricultural Minister Ravindra Choubey suffered a heart attack. He has been rushed to a private hospital in Lucknow, where his treatment is underway. Reports have claimed that Chaubey would be shifted to Delhi's Medanta Hospital after his health stabilises. To be noted that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has rushed his principal secretary Gaurav Dwivedi to the Lucknow-based hospital, to monitor the treatment of Chaubey. The CM is himself expected to reach the UP capital shortly.

Here it is to be noted that Chaubey, a veteran Congressman, was dispatched to campaign in Uttar Pradesh for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2019. His health deteriorated earlier in the day, which compelled his aides to rush him to the hospital. He was found to have suffered from cardiac arrest. The 62-year-old Minister currently represents the Dhamdha seat in the Chhattisgarh assembly. His journey in politics dates back to 1978, when he joined the National Students' Union of India (NSUI).

However it is worth mention here that since 2013 till the end of BJP's tenure, Chaubey also served as the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly. He was among the first picks in his Cabinet by Baghel after the Congress returned to power in December 2018. He served as the Minister in the erstwhile united Madhya Pradesh, when Digvijay Singh became the Chief Minister.
