Sensex captures 49,517 mark, Tata Motors keep up gain

Indian share market benchmark indices in a volatile trading session make a little go a long way gains as banking stocks staged a rebound in the second half.

The BSE Sensex ended 0.5 percent higher at 49,517. The index is now only 483 points away from the mark of 50,000. The NSE Nifty 50 index closed with gains of 0.5 percent at 14,563. Among top gainers in today's session are Tata Motors, Eicher Motors, GAIL, SBI and Coal India, while losers include Asian Paints, HUL, Titan, Sun Pharma and Nestle.

Among the sectoral indices, the PSU Bank index had a sharp spike closing  6 percent higher and was the top sectoral gainer in today's session. All constituents of the index closed higher and it ended at the highest level since February last year.

The Nifty Realty index climbed 2.8 percent in today's session, led by gains in DLF and other Mumbai-based realty players. Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty Media saw gains of over 1 percent each.

Among the losers today were Pharma, I.T. and FMCG. The Pharma index was the top sectoral laggard, seeing cuts of 1.2 percent. The FMCG index fell 0.6 percent while the I.T. index, though little changed, ended with a negative bias.
