Indian equity indices ended at the day's losses with modest losses on Tuesday. share BSE Sensex down 435.24 points, or 0.72 percent, to 60,176.50, while the wider NSE Nifty fell 96.00 points, or 0.53 percent, to 17,957.40. Mid- and small-cap stocks, on the other hand, traded higher, with the Nifty Midcap 100 up 0.34 percent and small-cap stocks up 0.59 percent.
The National Stock Exchange's 15 sector indicators were trading in the red, with seven of them in the red. Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services both fell 0.62 percent and 0.79 percent, respectively, underperforming the index. Bajaj Finance was the highest Nifty loss, falling 1.50 percent to 7,377.95. Among the laggards were the HDFC Housing Finance and HDFC Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
After jumping approximately 10 percent in the previous day on the merger prospects, the HDFC twins' shares plummeted nearly 1 percent each. On the BSE, the overall market breadth was robust, with 1,388 shares gaining and 253 decreasing.
Bajaj Finance, HDFCs, Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Bank, IndusInd Bank, and Bharti Airtel were among the top losers on the 30-share BSE index. Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti, Sun Pharma, TCS, Dr Reddy's, PowerGrid, and Titan, on the other hand, were trading in the green.
