Sensex ends 3-day losing streak with a gain of 187-pts, Nifty settles above 17,250

New Delhi The Indian equity indexes completed the day in the green on Tuesday, reversing a three-day losing trend fueled by significant buying demand in banking and metal sectors. In a turbulent trading session, the 30-share BSE Sensex advanced 187 points, or 0.33 percent, to end at 57,809, while the wider NSE Nifty rose 53 points, or 0.31 percent, to conclude at 17,267. Both indices fluctuated between gains and losses throughout the day before settling in the positive territory.

Mid- and small-cap stocks ended the day higher, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index up 0.70 percent and small-cap stocks up 1.72 percent.

The National Stock Exchange's 15 sector indices all finished the day in the green. By as much as 0.82 percent, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Metal beat the index. Tata Steel was the highest Nifty gainer, jumping 3.09 percent to Rs. 1,219.50. Cipla, Reliance Industries, Divi's Lab, and Bajaj Finserv were among the companies that benefited. ONGC, PowerGrid, SBI Life, Tata Consumer Products, and Indian Oil Corp, on the other hand, were among the losers.
