Key benchmark indices continued to trade strongly on Friday. At the close of the session, Sensex settled with gains of 117 points at 50,731, while Nifty topped levels of 14,924, up 28 points in trade. The broader markets however underperformed with losses of over 1 percent on the Nifty Midcap 100. For the week, both the benchmark indices were up 9.5 percent - their best weekly advance since April last year.

SBI, Tata Steel, Divis Labs, Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the top gainers while laggards in today's session include stocks like Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank and UPL.

Nifty PSU Bank index continued its rally followed by its previous day's gains and jumped up to 8.7 percent but settled with gains of, leading the list of sectoral gainers. While the telecom pack was the least sectoral performer.

Among sectoral indices, the Nifty Bank cooled off nearly 1,000 points from the day's high to end 0.9 percent higher at 35,654. The index made an intraday record of 36,615.

Broader markets were mixed on the final trading day of the week. The Nifty Midcap index fell 1.1 percent while the smallcap index managed to eke out gains to end 0.3 percent higher.
