Sensex gains 191 points ahead of India Budget 2019 presentation

New Delhi: On Friday, February 1, 2019 (Budget 2019 date)Indian stock markets (Sensex, Nifty) resumed in positive territory in the morning deals after opening higher with BSE Sensex gaining more than 100 points and NSE Nifty trading firm around 10,850. The S&P BSE Sensex registered an intraday high at 36,448.30, up 191.61 points, or 0.53 per cent while NSE Nifty marked the day’s top at 10,888.05, up 57.1 points or 0.53 per cent.

During an early market day, a market-wide buying sentiment was seen in Indian equity markets today barring few sectors such as metal, PSU bank. Shares of the Anil Agarwal-led metals and mining conglomerate Vedanta Ltd collapsed nearly 20 per cent in the trade today after the company reported a 21 per cent drop in the Q3 profit to Rs 1,574 crore.

Bharti Airtel shares were the top gainers among the Sensex shares on Friday even after India’s second-largest telecom company posted a 72 per cent fall in the Q3 net profit. The stock of Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Airtel surged as much as 4.33 per cent to Rs 320.45 on BSE today. Vedanta shares took the massive beating on Friday after company’s Q3 profit fell 21 per cent on the shutdown of copper smelter at Tuticorin. Other than Bharti Airtel, shares of HCL Tech, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Bajaj Finance, HUL, HDFC, Reliance Industries, L&T and Infosys were the lead gainers among Sensex shares today.Shares of HDFC, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Infosys and Maruti Suzuki were the biggest positive point contributors to BSE Sensex today.
