Sensex, Nifty End Little Changed; Rupee gains 11-ps to finish at 73.04 against USD
Indian share market ended little changed after another volatile session for the second consecutive day. The BSE Sensex ended 91 points higher at 49,584 while the NSE Nifty 50 index ended 30 points at 14,595.
Among sectoral indices, the FMCG and Pharma indices were the outperformers in today's session. The Pharma and FMCG indices ended 0.8 percent higher. The Metal index was the top laggard in today's session, ending 1 percent lower. The I.T. index staged a recovery from the day's low, ending little changed after falling as much as 2.5 percent.
Foreign institutional investors were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 1,879.06 crore on a net basis on Wednesday, according to provisional exchange data.
Elsewhere, at the interbank forex market, the rupee which opened at 73.18 finally closed 11 paise higher at 73.04 against the US dollar on Thursday, supported by sustained foreign fund inflows and weak American currency.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.11 percent to 90.26. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.21 percent to USD 55.94 per barrel.
