Sensex, Nifty Gain For Third Day; Bank, Auto Stocks lead

Indian equity indices indexes on Tuesday extended their winning streak to three straight sessions. Domestic indices fluctuated between gains and losses during intraday trading before ending the day in the green thanks to interest from buyers in stocks of banks and auto.

The NSE Nifty gained 62 points or 0.38 percent higher to conclude at 16,341 today, while the 30-share BSE Sensex increased 246 points or 0.45% to close at 54,768. Mid- and small-capitalization stocks performed well at the close, with the Nifty Midcap 100 rising 0.67 percent and small-caps up 1.02 percent.

The 11 sectoral indices on the National Stock Exchange finished in the green. The NSE platform was outperformed by the sub-indices Nifty Bank and Nifty Auto, which saw increases of up to 1.02 and 1.05 percent, respectively. Nifty Pharma and Nifty Oil & Gas, however, had declines of up to 0.25 and 0.13 percent, respectively.

With their shares rising as much as 2.35 percent, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, M&M, Tata Steel, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv, SBI, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, NTPC, and Hindustan Unilever were among the top gainers on the 30-share BSE index.

On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, Asian Paints, Titan, ITC, Nestle India, HCL Tech, Sun Pharma, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Dr. Reddy's, and Infosys all finished in the red.
