Sensex, Nifty rise; RIL Gains 2 percent

Indian benchmark indices opened the day, (Friday 6 November) with gains on positive global cues with Nifty up 0.26 percent at 12143, while Sensex was up over 117 points at 41474- levels at the time of this writing.

Reliance Industries, Mahindra and Mahindra, HDFC bank, UPL and NTPC were among major gainers on the Nifty, on the other hand, Maruti Suzuki, Nestle India, JSW Steel, Gail India and Asian Paints were top losers. Heavyweight Reliance Industries was the topper in trade today on raking in yet another investment in its Retail arm. Shares of Reliance gained close to 3 percent in the opening hours, but later it reduced gains upto 2 percent.

Other heavyweight stocks pushing the indices higher include Bajaj Finerv and HDFC which were also up 1 percent. Broader indices also were up in the session with Nifty mid-cap up almost 1 percent.

Asian equities however were mixed as U.S poll outcome is awaited. Japan's Nikkei was up 0.88 percent while Straits Times and Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.57 percent and 0.18 percent, respectively.
