Sensex, Nifty sparkle for Fifth consecutive Day

Indian equities benchmark indices closed with gains for the fifth straight day with the  Sensex ended 259 points higher at 47,613. The index ended 100 points lower from the day's high of 47,714. The NSE Nifty 50 index ended 59 points at  13,932. The 50-stock benchmark fell 35 points from the day's high of 13,967.

Among the sectoral indices, banks and financials in private sectors outperformed in today's session. The Nifty Bank index gained 1.5 percent and emerged as the top sectoral gainer. The PSU Bank index ended with gains of 0.9 percent. Other sectoral gainers included the Nifty IT index, which ended with gains of 0.7 percent.

Media and Metal stocks were the top losers in today's session. The Media index fell 1.4 percent while the Metal index shed 1.1 percent in today's session. Nifty Realty, Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma index fell 0.2 percent each.

Among top Nifty gainers are IndusInd Bank, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, HDFC and HCL Tech, while top losers include Coal India, NTPC, Nestle, Hindalco and Tata Motors. Shares of Rossari Biotech surged 11 percent to their highest price of Rs. 1019 since listing on the bourses on July 23, 2020.
