Sensex sparkles 226 pts; Nifty tops 15,850; Tata Steel leads

Indian stock market advanced on the Weekend Friday with BSE Sensex climbing 0.43 percent to end at a fresh lifetime high on Friday, boosted by ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Infosys amid positive cues from global markets. At close, the 30-share BSE index closed 226.04 points higher at a record 52,925.04. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty advanced 69.90 points to 15,860.35.

Tata Steel was the top gainer both in Sensex and Nifty pack, rising over 3 per cent. On the Nifty, the other significant gainers were Axis Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank, and Hindalco Industries, while major losers included Reliance Industries, Titan Company, NTPC, HUL, and Asian Paints. Sectorally, The majority of the Nifty sectors indices were in the green, headed by the Nifty Metal and Nifty PSU Bank indexes, which were both up over 2 percent.

In the previous session, the 30-share index Sensex ended 392.92 points or 0.75 percent higher at 52,699. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty surged 103.50 points or 0.66 percent to 15,790.45. 

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 2,890.94 crore on Thursday, as per provisional exchange data.
