Srinagar: Police have registered an FIR in connection with the alleged anti-national sloganeering and wrapping the body of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the leader of the radical faction of the separatist outfit Hurriyat Conference, in a Pakistani flag following the death of his leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday. Officials said the Budgam police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons under all provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the IPC.

The same official said police have registered an FIR in view of illegal activities at Geelani's house on the night of September 1. It has also come to light that after Geelani's death, some women allegedly manhandled the policemen at his house when they buried Geelani's body from his family in his absence.

The same police took cognizance of the video showing Geelani's body wrapped in a Pakistani flag. However, as the police moved forward to take possession of the body, the late separatist leader's aides removed the flag. Geelani died at his home on Wednesday night at the age of 91 after a prolonged illness. His body was buried in the cemetery of a nearby mosque. Kashmir Valley was closed after Geelani's death. Internet and phone services were also shut down to prevent protests over his death.
