J&K: Separatist leader Gilani's internet was active despite of ban, two BSNL officials under suspicion

Srinagar: Two BSNL officials have been prosecuted as separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani even after the imposition of Section 144 and banning the internet in Jammu and Kashmir. Two BSNL officers have come under suspicion for granting internet access even after Geelani was banned from communication services.

It may be mentioned that in view of the removal of Section 370 of the Constitution granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the government had banned internet and phone services in the Valley as a precautionary measure. The ban was imposed on the facility from 4th August. But the landline and internet of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was operational for 8 days. According to sources, the authorities have not been able to ascertain whether Geelani is running the internet in Kashmir, however, he did tweet from his account.

When an inquiry was launched into the matter, how Geelani was able to access internet and landline facilities. BSNL has taken action on two officers in this regard. Geelani's service had been suspended after authorities came to know about the loop holes. Geelani is always in the limelight because of anti-India statements.
