New Delhi: On Wednesday, Separatist leader and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik, who is currently under arrest and is lodged in the Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu will be shifted to the Tihar Jail in Delhi ahead of his hearing in a special court of the National Investigative Agency. Here it is to be noted that the Jammu and Kashmir High Court had on March 13 accepted a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation and transferred a 30-year-old case on Malik from Srinagar to Jammu. Malik is the prime accused in the killing of five Indian Air Force personnel in Srinagar on 25 January 1990 and the kidnapping of Dr Rubiya Sayeed on 8 December 1989, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad.

Here it is to be noted that in a continued crackdown on separatists in the state, the Central government on March 22 banned his JKLF under the anti-terror law for the alleged promotion of secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The crackdown on JKLF was under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba had said last month “As many as 37 FIRs have been registered by Jammu and Kashmir Police against JKLF. Two cases including the case of the murder of Indian Air Force personnel were registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also registered a case which is under investigation,”.The Centre last month also banned Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir, another separatist organisation, the second such crackdown in Jammu and Kashmir.
