New Delhi: The Serum Institute of India (SII) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said on Friday that the US needed to lift the ban on raw material exports to increase vaccine production. SII is currently developing the coronavirus vaccine 'Covishield' developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University and is not only being used in India but is also being exported to many countries.
Adar Poonawala had earlier admitted that SII was facing problems in sending batches of required number of vaccines due to bureaucratic and governmental hurdles. He wrote in a tweet tagging the Twitter account of US President Joe Biden that, 'Honorable President of the United States, I humbly request you on behalf of the vaccine industry outside the United States if we are to truly unite to defeat the virus, If so, the ban on the export of raw materials outside the US should be removed so that the production of vaccines can increase. Your administration has detailed information"

There is a shortage of corona vaccines in many countries including India. To this, SII CEO Adar Poonawalla tweeted that, "Respected US President, if we are truly united in defeating the virus, then on the basis of the vaccine industry outside the United States, I urge you to get the necessary raw material for the vaccine.
