Dead bodies of all seven Indian Army personnel trapped in an avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang area have been recovered, according to a defence spokesman. The remains were recovered from the avalanche site by the Indian Army and local police, according to Defence Spokesman Lt Col Harsh Vardhan Pande of Tezpur. Unfortunately, despite everyone's best attempts, all seven have been declared deceased, according to the spokesperson.

The army personnel were struck by an avalanche on Sunday while walking in the Chume Gyater region near Yangtse in Tawang sector. The Chume Gyater region is around 100 kilometres from Tawang's district seat. Since the last several days, the area, which is located at an altitude of 14500 feet, has been experiencing severe weather with heavy snowfall, according to the spokesman.

He stated that the troops' bodies are being transported from the avalanche scene to the nearest Army medical centre for further formalities. The seven troops were members of the Indian Army's 19 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles, an infantry unit. Patrolling in high-altitude places during the winter months may be difficult, and the Army has already suffered deaths in such incidents. Two Army troops were killed in an avalanche in Sikkim in May 2020. They were part of a patrol-cum-snow-clearing crew. Five Navy troops were trapped in an avalanche on Mt Trishul in Uttarakhand in October of last year, while on an expedition. Later, their bodies were found.
