In connection with a COVID norms violation case, a West Tripura district court granted bail to seven CPI-M leaders in Tripura.

The case against the seven CPI-M leaders stems from an alleged COVID protocol violation during a political rally in September of last year. Badal Chowdhury, the deputy leader of the opposition in the Tripura Assembly, former minister Manik Dey, and former MP Shankar Prasad Dutta are among those who have been granted bail.

The cases filed against the CPI-M leaders were 'fake,' according to Manik Dey, and the BJP-led Tripura government is attempting to harass opposition party leaders. "We protested, demanding that people be provided with basic needs." People's basic necessities were not met by the government. If they objected, they would be jailed. "This is chaos," Dey said.
