In the last 24 hours, seven NLFT cadres from the Parimal Debbarma faction of the proscribed group have surrendered to different security forces.

Five NLFT members surrendered to the Assam Rifles in the Anandabazar region of Tripura's Dhalai district, while two others surrendered to the Special Branch of the Tripura police in North Tripura.

"Agartala Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 21 Sector Assam Rifles and Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) along with Assam Rifles Field Intelligence Team persuaded five NLFT (PD) cadres at Anand Bazaar Police Station in Dhalai district, Tripura to surrender”," according to an AR press release. The joint operation was initiated as a result of the Field Intelligence team's inputs.

"Based on information from Field Intelligence Team and Wireless Experimental Unit about the presence of five NLFT (PD) cadres, Agartala Battalion and Field Intelligence Team launched a joint operation on 11 February 2022, which resulted in the surrender of Khojendra Reang, Sapansa Tripura, Jaluksa Tripura, Jubaranjan Tripura, and Jubaranjan Tripura," according to the statement.

"Cadres have confessed that they joined the NLFT (PD) group in Bangladesh NLFT camp alongside other radical cadres during preliminary interrogation." From their field experience, the cadres learned that their cause for Tripura's independence had lost its relevance.

The NLFT (PD) group, on the other hand, is in the midst of a serious financial and organisational crisis. "Frustrated by the current status of the NLFT organisation and the constant pressure of Security Forces," the statement said. Meanwhile, in North Tripura district, two NLFT (PD) cadres, Ezamoni Reang (35) and Hakimrai Reang (36) surrendered to the Special Branch of Tripura Police on Thursday.
