Seven peoples booked in J&K for not depositing weapons ahead of LS Poll

New Delhi: As per the Election Commission guidelines, all weapons must be deposited during elections. Jammu and Kashmir will witness five-phase elections. Seven people have been booked in Jammu and Kashmir for not depositing their licensed weapons ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The first phase will be held on April 11, second on April 18, third on April 23 and fourth on April 29 and fifth on May 6.

Here it is to be noted that a student of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was shot at in front of his hostel inside the campus on Tuesday evening. The student, identified as Gaurav Singh, has succumbed to his injuries. He was an MCA student who was shot at in front of Birla hostel. The police have arrested four people in connection with the shooting. Anil Kumar Singh, Circle Officer, Varanasi Cantt, told news agency "It was a case of personal enmity,".

The Congress party on Tuesday night declared 20 more Lok Sabha candidates retaining some of its sitting MPs in Punjab including Sunil Jakhar from Gurdaspur, Gurjit Singh Aujla from Amritsar, Ravneet Singh Bittu from Ludhiana and Santokh Singh Chaudhary from Jalandhar. The party has also given tickets to former MPs Preneet Kaur from Patiala and Pawan Kumar Bansal from Chandigarh. The Lok Sabha elections will start on April 11 and will end on May 19. The result will be announced on May 23. In Jammu and Kashmir, the elections will be held on April 11, 18, 23 and 29 and on May 6.
