Kolkata: In West Bengal, which is suffering from severe heat and heat stroke, the government has decided to close all the schools and universities in the state for a week. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday that all educational institutions in the state will remain closed until next week in view of the severe heat conditions.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that in the last few days, after coming home from school, children are complaining of headaches and other health problems. Therefore, in view of the scorching heat, all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, will remain closed from Monday through Saturday next week. Speaking to a Bengali news channel, West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee said that 'I request private educational institutions to do the same during this period'. 

Mamta Banerjee further said that an official notification will be issued soon in this regard. She said that 'I would also urge people to avoid going out in the sun from 12 noon to 4 pm.' Let us tell you that the West Bengal government had earlier announced summer vacation in state-run and aided schools from May 2, three weeks in advance, due to the scorching heat except in the hilly areas.
