Lucknow: Severe heat continues to grip North India, including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heatwave conditions in UP, East India, and North Madhya Pradesh for the next five days. However, some regions in UP are expected to receive rain today and tomorrow, and rain and thunderstorms are likely in the northwestern states until tomorrow. Heavy rains are predicted for Maharashtra and coastal Karnataka starting June 8.

In the past 24 hours, heatwave conditions prevailed in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, North Madhya Pradesh, and East Rajasthan, with maximum temperatures ranging from 43 to 46 degrees Celsius. Fatehpur in UP recorded the highest temperature at 46.2 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, heavy rains were reported in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Kerala.

Regarding the monsoon, the Meteorological Department announced its onset in Karnataka, parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh. The monsoon is expected to reach the remaining parts of Karnataka, rest of Maharashtra, Telangana, southern Chhattisgarh, and southern Odisha in the next three to four days, providing relief from the heat with heavy rains.

The forecast indicates light to moderate rains in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next five days. Konkan, Goa, and Central Maharashtra are expected to experience very heavy rains from June 6-10, while Marathwada will see heavy rains between June 6-8.

In Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal, light to moderate rains are expected over the next two to three days. Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh will experience rains for the next four to five days. A hailstorm warning has been issued for western Madhya Pradesh from June 6-8.

In North India, light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on June 6 and 7. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have a hailstorm alert for June 6. Additionally, light rain may occur in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on June 6 and 7, with possible thunderstorms.
