Dibrugarh: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past three days has led to severe waterlogging across Dibrugarh, causing significant disruption to daily life. Local resident Munna Rai described the situation, saying, "There is water everywhere, and daily tasks have become impossible. Many areas are flooded, and water has even entered homes."

The flooding has affected numerous locations, including the CRPF camp, which is now submerged. Another resident reported, "In front of the police area, all roads and paths are flooded. The police camp is also filled with water. Water has entered the shops, forcing shopkeepers to close and leave. It's very challenging here, and many places are without electricity. People are struggling."

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously forecasted such conditions. On June 27, the IMD predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated heavy rainfall expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next five days.

The IMD also noted that conditions are favorable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon into additional parts of North India as heatwave conditions have diminished across the country. The monsoon has already advanced into parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, and some parts of Punjab.

Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into more areas, including Rajasthan, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu within the next two to three days. The IMD also highlighted a trough at mean sea level extending from Maharashtra to the north Kerala coasts and a cyclonic circulation over central Gujarat, which is expected to influence weather patterns.

The department anticipates widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh in the coming days. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan and Goa from June 27 to July 1, as well as over Coastal Karnataka, Saurashtra, and Kutch on June 27 and 28, and South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh on June 27.
