NEW DELHI: In preparation for Shab-e-Barat, an Islamic ceremonial event held on the night between March 7 and 8, when many devotees from Delhi and elsewhere are likely to offer prayers at Delhi's mosques and cemeteries, the Delhi Traffic Police has arranged special traffic arrangements.

The devotees are likely to travel throughout the night from one place to another, for which elaborate traffic arrangements are required to be made.

Delhi Traffic Police will be making special traffic arrangements from 20: 00 hours of 07.03.2023 to 06: 00 hours of 08.03.2023 to ensure the safety of motorists on roads, ensure smooth flow of traffic, keep the pedestrians on the footpaths, guide the devotees and road users regarding routes and traffic diversions and to prevent rash and negligent driving or performance of stunts on two-wheelers,"

Throughout the whole Delhi region, 759 cops would be deployed at 283 strategically placed places, according to the officials. On different roadways, PCR and Local Police teams as well as Special Traffic Police checking teams would be stationed.

Also, according to the guidelines of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, a driver's licence will be seized and subject to suspension for a least of three months in situations of drunk driving, red light running, using a phone while driving, dangerous driving, and speeding.

The action shall also be commenced against the registered owners of vehicles whose vehicles are found to be used by minors/unauthorized persons, engaging in dangerous manoeuvres, driving without a licence, etc.," it said.

The Delhi Traffic Police urged all drivers to abstain from traffic infractions, particularly intoxicated driving, excessive speeding, triple riding, helmet-less riding, and travelling in the wrong direction.
