Mumbai: The power bill may be passed in Maharashtra from today. It has been introduced in the assembly and now the news is that it can be passed in the assembly i.e. Tuesday. It has been written in this bill that those who commit crimes against women will be punished severely. In fact, the state government has made provisions for stringent punishment including the death penalty and penalty of up to Rs 10 lakh for offences like rape, acid attack and posting objectionable content against women and children on social media.

It is built on the lines of the Directions Act of Andhra Pradesh. It is being said that this bill has a provision to complete the investigation of such crimes within 15 days and to file a charge sheet and complete the hearing within 30 days. This bill is likely to be passed from the House today. However, the state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh introduced the Maharashtra Shakti Criminal Law Maharashtra Amendment Bill, 2020 and the Maharashtra Special Special Court for offences against women and children under the Shakti Act, the bill on the first day of the two-day session of the Legislature.

In the first bill, there is a provision for amendment of the relevant sections of IPC, Criminal Penal Procedure Code (CRPC), Protection of Child Sexual Offenses Act for strict punishment. The second is for the establishment of at least one special court in every district of the state for hearing under this law.
