The Ninth President of India, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, was very sensitive and committed to his work. He strictly followed the rules and laws of Parliament and respected them a lot. His tenure as President lasted from 1992 to 1997. He passed away in New Delhi on December 26, 1999, nearly two years later, to end his term. His remarkable services to the country are still remembered.

An interesting story of Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma is associated with the late Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said when Sultan Qaboos broke all protocols and drove for the President of India himself. Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma visited Muscat in 1994 as President. The King of Oman never visits the airport to pick up foreign dignitaries, but when Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma arrived in Muscat, Sultan Qaboos of Oman arrived at the airport himself to pick up the President. When Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma's plane reached Oman, the Sultan himself lifted the President from his seat and brought him down.

Sultan Qaboos was not confined to this. The car that arrived at the airport to pick up Dr. Sharma was accompanied by a driver, but Oman King asked him to stop driving and took the president, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, to drive the car himself. Later, when the media asked the sultan why he had broken all protocols, the sultan's reply was that I did not go to the airport to pick up Dr. Sharma because he was the President of India. I have studied in India and learned many things in life. While I was studying in Pune, Dr. Sharma was my professor and that is why I broke all the protocols for him.
