Mumbai: NCP chief Sharad Pawar announced on Sunday that his party and the Congress have formed an alliance of 240 seats out of 288 assembly seats for the Maharashtra assembly elections. The Assembly elections will be held in the last minute this year. Pawar said that Raj Thackeray is planning not to contest the assembly elections due to objections about the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

Talking to media, Sharad Pawar said that the leaders of the two main opposition parties will hold talks with other parties like the self-respecting party for the remaining seats. "The NCP and the Congress have agreed to 240 seats for the upcoming assembly elections in the state," Pawar said. He said that the seat sharing talks will be completed and a list of assembly-wise candidates will be prepared in the coming few days.

On the question of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena coming up with the Congress-NCP alliance, Pawar said, "In Mumbai, I met some MNS leaders. Recently, Raj Thackeray met Sonia Gandhi. MNS leaders have doubts about EVMs and feel that some decision needs to be taken in this regard. MNS wants to boycott the elections, but we do not agree with it.

Pawar said that several political parties at the national level are against the EVMs and the matter is also in the court. "But no one has decided to boycott the election. "The people in power are misusing power and forcing the leaders of other parties to join their party," Sharad Pawar said on the involvement of some of his party leaders in the ruling BJP and Shiv Sena. The Income Tax Department, the CBI and the ACB are taking the help of central agencies. ''
