Mumbai: National Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar in Maharashtra has increased the odds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Eknath Khadse by giving a statement on Thursday. Sharad Pawar said during a meeting in Thane on Thursday that senior BJP leader Eknath Khadse has been in touch with him for a long time. Eknath Khadse, however, denied this, saying that for the last three years there had been no conversation with Sharad Pawar or any other member of the Pawar family.

In fact, Sharad Pawar had reached Thane during the nomination program of Jitendra Awhad, candidate of Kalwa-Mumbra Assembly seat in Thane. In a press conference held after the nomination, Pawar said that many loyal people of the ruling party who are angry with BJP and Shiv Sena are in touch with NCP. Pawar has said that among these leaders, veteran BJP leader Eknath Khadse is also included.

Sharad Pawar has claimed that Khadse had talked to several NCP leaders, although he does not know whether Khadse is willing to leave the BJP or not. Eknath Khadse, while dismissing Pawar's claims, said that in the last three years, he has not had any conversation with any member of the Pawar family. He said that "I have no intention of joining the NCP except the BJP".
