Sharechat has removed some of the uploaded videos from users of China's short video app Tik-Tok. Tik-Tok had sent a notice to Sharechat, stating that it had exclusive rights to the video content. Tik-Tok has claimed exclusive rights based on contractual agreements between the app and its creators. Let us know the full details

Tik-Tok said it has every right to initiate and control legal action, with a request to remove the video from another platform.  A ShareChat spokesperson said: "We can confirm that ShareChat has received several notices for deleting video links from Bytedance Technologies and we have complied with them. Bitedans Technologies has given legal contracts to give ownership of the content."

Tik-Tok is owned by China's startup Byteddans Technologies. However, Tik-Tok has not responded to a notice sent by Meuia House.Facebook and YouTube also have Tik-Tok videos. It is not yet known whether Facebook and YouTube have received notices to delete these videos. A media house had sent some questions to Facebook, but they have not been answered.

Some technology experts are questioning whether Tiktok's exclusive claim could affect the intermediate status, as social media platforms have benefited under the IT Act. Platforms use this status to argue that they have no legal liability on the content they post on behalf of users. The same status had helped Tiktock argue in the Madras High Court in April against his top ban. The court had banned the ticktalk for dangerous content for children.

For your information, Tik-Tok has about 20 million users in India. Of these, about 12 crore users are active on a monthly basis. In India, Tik-Tok is mainly combated with Facebook and ShareChat. "You don't have an intermediary when you partner with a user," said an advocate on technology and policy matters.
