Sensex and NIFTY close at historic highs as investors bat

New Delhi: The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) closed above 58,000 points for the first time with a gain of 277 on Friday. Reliance Industries, which has a strong stake in the Sensex, strengthened the market amid a positive global trend and continued capital flows from FOREIGN institutional investors.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 277.41 points, or 0.48 percent, to an all-time high of 58,129.95. The record had reached 58,194 points during trading. Similarly, the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 89.45 points, or 0.52 percent, to close at a record 17,323.60 points. It had reached a record 17,340.10 points during trading.

Shares of the Sensex gained more than 4 per cent, to the highest gainer, reliance industries. At the same time, Titan, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, Maruti and Dr Reddy's were also prominent lying in profit. On the other hand, the declining shares include HUL, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, HDFC and IndusInd Bank. Reliance Securities Strategy Affairs Chief Vinod Modi said mainly metal and vehicle stocks are showing a sharp rise in the domestic stock market.
