New Delhi: Former JNU student Sharjeel Imam, who was charged under UAPA in the Delhi riots, was denied bail by a Delhi court on Monday (April 11, 2022). Special Judge of the Delhi Court, Abhitabh Rawat, while dismissing Imam's bail plea, said that he has sufficient grounds to substantiate the allegations levelled against Sharjeel. During the hearing before the verdict, Imam's lawyer said that his client's arrest was made before the riots, so he had no role in plotting the riots.

According to media reports, Sharjeel Imam's lawyer Tanvir Ahmad Mir argued for Imam, saying the conspiracy charges levelled against him were false, as his arrest had already taken place before the violence and the violence broke out later. Mir told the court to release the imam, "We cannot tolerate a system where conspiracies become endless and continue to go on for eternity. Mir questioned the allegations levelled against Imam in the court and asked if there was any evidence to hold Sharjeel Imam responsible in the entire case, which suggests that a conspiracy to commit murder was hatched during the riots.''

During the hearing, public prosecutor Amit Prasad, who appeared on behalf of the state against Imam's bail plea, also made his point. He made it clear to the court that as Tanvir has been repeating the conspiracy repeatedly, in reality, the Imam's arrest was not for the first conspiracy but because of his seditious speech. So don't confuse the argument by repeatedly calling the Imam's lawyer a 'conspiracy'. Prasad said that even if there is a conspiracy of any kind and the investigating agencies have identified it and stopped the riots from taking place, it is still called a conspiracy.

What was the statement of Sharjeel Imam:-

Although Sharjeel Imam's speech is quite long here we are putting that part in front of the readers, which says provocative and damaging to the integrity of the country. At the anti-CAA programme, Sharjeel had said, "It is time for us to speak to non-Muslims that if they are our sympathizers, then stand on our terms." If they don't stand on our terms, they're not our sympathizers. If we have 5 lakh people organized by us, we can permanently cut off the North-East from Hindustan. If not permanently, Assam can be cut off from Hindustan for at least one-and-a-half months. Pour so much pus on the tracks, on the road that it took a month to remove them. If you want to go, go by the Air Force. You can also watch the video on YouTube. ''
