New Delhi: On Thursday (February 3, 2022), a heated debate was witnessed between two former allies regarding Hindi and English language during the proceedings in the Lok Sabha. Questions were asked in English during the Question Hour in Parliament. When Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia answered this in Hindi, Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor got furious. Tharoor termed the reply in Hindi as an insult and got angry.
Actually, DMK MP from Pollachi (Tamil Nadu) KS Sundaram asked a question in English about the start of international flight from Coimbatore. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia answered this in Hindi. After this, another DMK MP from Dindigul (Tamil Nadu) P Velusamy asked the question in English. This question was related to flight planning. Scindia also answered this question in Hindi. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Lok Sabha member from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, was sitting in reply that Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, Shashi Tharoor got furious. Tension erupted between the two old allies of the Congress and a heated argument ensued. Let us tell you that Jyotiraditya used to be a big face of the Congress earlier and from 2012 to 2014, he had independent charge of the Ministry of Power in the Manmohan Singh government.
On hearing the answer in Hindi, Shashi Tharoor said that please do not answer in Hindi. This is an insult to the people. Ministers speak in English. Replying to this, Scindia said that it is strange for a member of the House to make such remarks. Scindia said that, 'If I speak in Hindi, then the member of the House has objection, while a translator is also present in the House.' Seeing the heated debate going on between the two, the Speaker of the House immediately intervened. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that answering in Hindi is not an insult.
