New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor lambasted the Centre over the Nagaland ambush, saying there should have been a debate in the House but that Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Ajit Doval rushed out without answering questions.

Tharoor remarked, "We should have talked about it. The Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Defense should have addressed the House and listened to what it had to say. Instead, you made a brief remark and then left without answering any questions. This is why the Congress party protested by walking out."

When asked about the ambush in Nagaland, Tharoor stated, "First and foremost, why did this occur? Second, what sort of intelligence structure do we have when a single erroneous piece of data may result in the deaths of so many innocent people? Third, why was it essential to fire without first conducting a standard interrogation? These are the questions that were left unanswered "he stated

"Look at the state of affairs in a state where the government professes to be involved in highly successful peace talks. We had said in our Congress party's manifesto that Armed Forces Special Powers Act  (AFSPA) should be reconsidered. We can't afford for it to be interpreted by the public as allowing security officers to behave with impunity "Tharoor said.
