Shawn Mendes went on Vanity Fair's lie detector test interview and answered some challenging questions. The Wonder singer expressed some of his genuine feelings on Justin Bieber and Harry Styles, as well as Taylor Swift's boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Mendes expressed his thoughts on Joe Alywn, saying that he has a "villain appearance," in a startling remark.

Mendes was questioned if he is still in touch with Taylor Swift and if they exchange messages during his lie detector test. The artist soon reacted, stating that he consults her for music guidance on a regular basis. When asked what he thinks of her lover Joe Alwyn, Shawn began by describing him as a "nice man," but was interrupted for his dishonest response, following which he stated the truth.

Shawn remarked after being caught on the lie detector, "Is it possible that I'm lying a little? He looks a little bit like a villain, to be honest. He appears to be a lovely man, but he may change into a villain at any moment, you know?" 

Shawn subsequently noted that Joe's blue eyes made it difficult for him to trust Alwyn, saying, "He has very blue eyes, and I have a hard time with blue eyes, you know? I find it simpler to trust dark eyes, for example."

Mendes also got real about Justin Bieber, revealing that the two had never addressed the singer's 2018 Met Gala appearance with Bieber's now-wife Hailey Baldwin. Shawn also admitted to being frightened after seeing Justin for the first time, claiming that his face twitched as a result.
