Late last year the story about Evelyn Adams and David Barlett hit the news, they’re a homeless couple in Florida that have been in love for years but unable to move forward due to their living situation. It became a big headline when a local police officer made it his personal mission to help them find a home and so they could continue their relationship and eventually reach their goal of being married.

The feedback from the news story was so powerful that their story has become even more heartwarming, as Evelyn and David have now received over $20,000 in donations for their home and wedding. The police officer that took the mission, Officer McDonald, says his goal was just to get them into a warm home where they could be together. He never expected to see the public support that they’ve gotten, but now after just a few months the public has contributed over $20,000 in cash donations.

In addition to the cash, multiple wedding venues, caterers and other service groups have donated their services to help David and Evelyn schedule the wedding of their dreams. This is truly a heartwarming story of just what the public can do to help a couple in need. Perhaps the most amazing part of all is that when David and Evelyn reached out to the homeless support group for help, all they were asking for was $93 to go out and buy a marriage license.

The couple is so in love that they were more interested in getting married than finding a home; they wanted to be married before anything else so they could stick together through anything. Officer McDonald reports that in his years at the homeless support division he’s almost never seen support like this for anyone from the public. He is hopeful that the increased attention and positive outcome of this story will help encourage people all around the world to help the homeless in their areas through outreach and public support groups. He continues to say that if the public doesn’t step in and help then incredible stories like this never become a reality, so go out and make that happen in your community.

The couple is happy to report that they’ve already working on getting a wedding date picked out and are excitedly waiting for their change to move into a new home. They express nothing but extreme gratitude to the thousands of people that contributed to help them get married and to help them afford a home. Evelyn and Dave are a truly inspirational story of how strong love can be, after 22 years together they realize that no matter what their conditions look like, as long as they are together things will be alright.
