Kolkata: A man in West Bengal's East Bardhaman district chopped off his wife's hand just because he did not want his wife to take up a nurse's job in a government hospital. The incident took place on the morning of June 5, 2022, when Renu Khatoon was sleeping and her husband Sariful Sheikh alias Sher Mohammad chopped off her hand.
According to media reports, to cut off the hand of 23-year-old Renu Khatun, her husband resorted to his friends and cut off her hand with an axe while she was sleeping. According to police sources, Renu said she immediately rushed to Durgapur hospital where her condition stabilized. The police have now registered a case on the complaint of the woman's father Ajijul Haque. Additional Superintendent of Police of Katwa in East Bardhaman, Dhruv Das, said, "We received a complaint from the woman's father and we registered a case of attempt to murder. The woman's husband and his friends are on the run. They are being given a warning to catch them. '
Renu is said to be a resident of Chinishpur in Kitugram. He took a GNM degree from RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata in 2018. However, when she started working in Durgapur, her husband and in-laws started having problems with it. Sher Mohammed, who runs a grocery store, started harassing her over Renu's decision to take up the job. Her brother said that Renu's marriage took place in 2017, but after that her life was ruined. These tortures were further aggravated when Renu got a government job offer, stating that she could be posted anywhere in the province for a job.
The victim's brother, Ripon Shaikh, said Sher Mohammed directly refused to let his sister go to work. But Renu wanted to go to work. Ripon said that after cutting Renu's hand, Sarifull has informed that he took this step only to ensure that Renu does not get a job in any case. After carrying out this work, he also took Renu's hand with him, so that it could never be attached.
