Amritsar: Political turmoil is gaining momentum in Punjab over next year's assembly elections. The latest news is that Shiromani Akali Dal is likely to contest in alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). If everything goes well then it will be officially announced on Saturday. SAD was a part of NDA till now, but it broke ties on the issue of agriculture bill. Thus the ties of BJP and SAD, which had been together for many years, were broken.

BSP and SAD are coming together after the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, nearly 27 years later. The alliance had then won 11 of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. At that time, BSP had won all the three seats on which it contested and SAD had won eight out of 10. Kanshiram was then BSP chief and also contested from Hoshiarpur. SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal is said to have played a major role in the formation of a fresh alliance.

Meanwhile, the Congress is also in turmoil ahead of the Punjab elections. In Punjab, the Congress seems to be divided into two parts. On the one hand is Captain Amarinder Singh, on the other hand is Navjot Singh Sidhu. The two factions have now come face to face, the voice of which has reached the party high command. A committee of three leaders was formed to resolve the dispute, which has submitted the report to the top leadership. However, there seems to be no solution to the dispute so far.
