Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal, an ally in the Central government, has opposed the Kisan Ordinances introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday amid protests by farmers in Punjab. The party says that the central government had not taken any advice from them before passing the bill in the cabinet. Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Tuesday, "The government should have consulted parties like SAD, which are the parties of farmers and the poor".

"We were not told about this Ordinance. When it was brought to the cabinet, our representative raised questions. This ordinance is affecting Punjab the most. Not only did the party support the centre's move, but last Saturday, a meeting of the Core Committee of the Akali Dal was held in which the party had appealed to the Centre not to bring these three ordinances in the Lok Sabha unless the issue of reservation of farmers is discussed. Thereafter, the party has changed its stand".
