Maharashtra: A political battle has erupted between the ruling Shiv Sena and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra at this time over 'Azaan'. South Mumbai Shiv Sena leader Pandurang Sapkal has denied organizing an 'Azaan' competition for Muslim children in his area. The BJP has strongly attacked the Shiv Sena for abandoning Hindutva for power but Sapkal was defending the Azaan competition first, then later issued a rebuttal.

Sapkal, defending his stand, had said, 'Some Muslim officials in our party requested me to do something for their children, who do not sit at home during the lockdown. I suggested that the way we organize 'Bhagavad Gita' reading competition for Hindu children, we can organize an Azaan competition for their children on the same lines. ' Simultaneously, Sapkal also denied the allegations of appeasement politics by the BJP.

Recently Sapkal said, 'Balasaheb used to say that he always respects all religions. He always said that he has respect for nationalist Muslims like former President Kalam. He also allowed a Muslim couple to offer namaz at his residence 'Matoshree'. They (BJP) have a habit of doing Hindu-Muslim politics and will do so but my intention was clear. Sapkal also said, 'Balasaheb used to say that he always respects all religions. He always said that he has respect for nationalist Muslims like former President Kalam.

In the meantime, the BJP has made a sharp attack on the Shiv Sena. Recently BJP MLA and in charge of BMC elections Atul Bhatkhalkar said, 'Some Shiv Sena leaders are now saying that they like to listen to Azaan and they get peace of mind by listening to it. Uddhav Thackeray had renounced the saffron flag to become the Chief Minister and now he has a green flag to protect his chair. Now the people of Maharashtra must have understood why a girl, Karishma Bhonsle, who complained against Azan in Anandi Nagar, was arrested, and the BJP had to come forward to protect her. Now even Owaisi will be ashamed of Shiv Sena's hypocrisy for power.
