Bengaluru: Siddaganga Mutt seer Shivakumara Swami passed away on Monday at the age of 111 year. The Government of Karnataka has announced a 3 day state mourning on the death of  Lingayat-Veerashaiva faith spiritual leader. On the occasion, a holiday has been declared for all the schools and colleges in the state along with Government Offices.

Three days of state mourning has been announced in the state by Deputy chief minister G Parameshwara. Holiday declared in Karnataka tomorrow as part of the state mourning.

Religion head of the Lingayat community was conferred with teh Padma Bhushan in 2015 for his extensive social work. He was also the holder of an honourary doctorate in litterature from Karnataka University and Karnataka Ratna awardee in 2007.

Over the past few days Shivakumara Swami was on ventilator support. He passed away after prolonged illness. He was suffering from a lung infection.

 Shivakumara Swami passed away at 11.44 am, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has announced 3 day state mourning. His cremation would be conducted tomorrow with full state honours. All the schools and colleges in the state would remain closed tomorrow.
