Khargone: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an additional compensation of Rs 72 lakh for the victims of last month's Khargone communal riots. In fact, the Chief Minister made this announcement while attending the wedding of a victim of the Khargone riots through video conferencing. The wedding of Lakshmi Muchhal, a resident of Sanjay Nagar in Khargone, was scheduled to take place on April 14, though the marriage was postponed after her wedding gifts and other important items were destroyed during the communal riots.

In fact, a riot broke out in Khargone on April 10 due to the playing of a disputed song by a DJ in front of a mosque during the Ram Navami procession. However, so far, the total compensation of Rs 1.32 crore has been distributed among those affected in the riots. After that, now the CM of Madhya Pradesh attended Lakshmi Muchhal's wedding with his wife through a virtual medium on Friday night. However, earlier, Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kamal Patel, who is in charge of the Khargone district, attended the wedding and gave gifts to the bride.

After the riots, more than 170 people were arrested and FIRs have been lodged against 65 people. The Madhya Pradesh government is investigating the matter and a tribunal has also been set up to compensate for the losses caused by the rioters. After the riots, the district administration demolished at least 55 houses, shops and other establishments.
