Mumbai: In Thursday's editorial of its mouthpiece Saamana, Shiv Sena has raised the demand for giving Maratha language status to Maratha language. It has been said in the editorial that this demand is very old and no attention has been paid by the Central Government. Saamna said, 'The demand for giving Marathi language status to the Marathi language has once again been made by the new CM of the state Uddhav Thackeray.'

It is written in Saamana that even before Thackeray, many Chief Ministers of the state wrote several letters to give the Marathi language the status of aristocratic language, but no response to all those letters came from the Prime Minister's Office. It is said that the then CM Devendra Fadnavis had also made a lot of efforts to get Marathi the status of aristocracy, at that time the Minister of the concerned department Vinod Tawde had said that all the formalities in this regard have been completed, but so far Marathi has not got the status of elite language.
