Gaikwad further said, "Citizen groups had invited Congress, NCP and other parties to join the protests. Congress organized this demonstration, we would have joined the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (the alliance of Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP) by calling all partners." Shiv Sena had earlier supported the disputed Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, but during its voting in the Rajya Sabha, it walked out saying that the party's questions about the bill were not answered.
