New Delhi: In the national capital Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suffered a major setback in the election of the head of the Haj Committee. Kausar Jahan has been elected as the chairperson of the Haj Committee of the State. She had the support of BJP leaders. BJP MP Gautam Gambhir voted in favor of Kausar Jahan. BJP MP, two MLAs of AAP, and one councilor of Congress were included in this election. In which a total of 3 votes were cast in support of Kausar. At the same time, AAP members boycotted this election.

According to the report, only 3 votes were cast in the election. Two members, Gautam Gambhir, Mohammad Saad, and Kausar Jahan herself voted for her. 2 members AAP MLA Abdul Rehman and Haji Yunus boycotted the poll, while Congress councilor Nazia Danish was absent. In this election, 2 BJP leaders voted in favor of Kausar Jahan. Whereas, Kausar Jahan's one vote was her own. This is the second time in the electoral history of the Haj Committee that a woman candidate has won the election for the post of president. Prior to this, Tajdar Babar has been the president of the Haj Committee of Delhi.

On 6 January 2022, a new Haj Committee was formed in Delhi. While forming the committee, the leaders of all three parties were included.
