Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh: In a disturbing turn of events, a pregnant woman found herself abandoned by her husband, who shockingly declared her to be his mother, following her alleged sexual assault by her father-in-law.
The 26-year-old victim lodged a formal complaint with the police on September 7, asserting that on August 5, her father-in-law forcibly entered her residence and sexually assaulted her while her husband was away. The accused not only subjected her to this heinous act but also threatened and physically harmed her, as confirmed by the police.
Upon confiding in her husband about the traumatic ordeal, she was met with a distressing response. Instead of extending support and empathy, her husband chose to expel her from their home, rationalizing his actions by stating that she had assumed the role of his mother following her physical involvement with his own father.
Reeling from her husband's abandonment, the woman, reportedly seven months pregnant, sought refuge with her parents.
The police have taken action in this grave matter, registering a case against the father-in-law under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. The victim's statement has been officially recorded before a magistrate.
Meanwhile, the accused has vehemently denied the allegations of rape, countering them with claims that the woman was attempting to pressure the family into providing financial compensation.
This incident has unsettling parallels with a case from Charthawal village in the same district, where in 2005, a 28-year-old woman, after suffering sexual assault by her father-in-law, had astonishingly chosen to redefine her relationship with her husband as that of a son.
