Govardhan Asrani is one of the most renowned comedians in Bollywood who has featured in various major hit films and entertained us. He is celebrating his birthday today. On his Birthday have a look on his interesting journey. ‘

He was born in Gurdaspur, Punjab. Asrani once  told in an interview that his family members did not want him to enter in the film industry. The first time they saw him on a screen,  They picked him up from Mumbai and took him back to Gurdaspur. Asrani shared that he often used to run away from school and go to the theatre to watch films. His father wanted him to do a government job when he grows up. Asrani ran away from Gurdaspur to Mumbai without informing anyone at home in order to fulfill his dream.

When he came to Mumbai, he struggled for work in the film line, but did not get success. Then someone told him to do a diploma from Pune Film Institute to enter films. In 1960, the Film and Television Institute was established in Pune. In 1964, he completed his diploma in acting and then started looking for work in films. Asrani returned to Mumbai after completing his diploma from Pune.

He got small roles in films, but he got recognition for the first time from a song in the film Seema. When his family members in Gurdaspur saw him in a ong,  they came straight to Mumbai and took Asrani back with him. After staying in Gurdaspur for a few days, he somehow managed to convince his family members and returned to Mumbai.

He did not get any role even after searching for work for many days in Mumbai, after that he came back to Pune Film Institute and became a teacher in FTII.  After teaching for some time. He got his big break during Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1969 film 'Satyakam' but came into limelight with the 1971 film 'Guddi'. He got a comic role in the film, which was not only liked by the audience, but Asrani was also labeled as a comedian.
