Taking a historic decision, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has approved the inclusion of medals in the shooting and archery Commonwealth Championships in Chandigarh on the medal table of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Championships of both these games will be held in Chandigarh in January 2022, while the Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham this year. However, CGF has also said that the official rankings will be released by adding medals of shooting, archery to the table a week after the closing ceremony of the main Commonwealth Games.

According to reports, a revolt by the Olympic Association of India (IOA) and the NRAI against the shooting out of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games of 2022 has finally shown its color. IOA President Narendra Batra had said to boycott the Games. Only in November last year, CGF Chairman Dame Louis Martin and CEO David Gravemberg had to come to Delhi for talks. After the talks between the two sides, it was proposed that India will organize the Commonwealth Championship of Shooting and Archery. Martin spoke of putting this proposal in the CGF Executive, which was approved on Monday.

Expenses of the championship will be borne by the Ministry and NRAI: NRI President Raninder Singh has made it clear that the NRAI will bear all the expenses of the shooting championship (about 10 crores), while the expenditure of the archery (about 4 crores) will lift. The NRAI will cover all the shooters' travel, living and food expenses.
