The Supreme Court on Monday restricted the Jammu and Kashmir Police from initiating investigattion against Major Aditya Kumar till 24 April in the Shopian firing incident, according to a number of media reports.

The Jammu and Kashmir government, however, in a big twist told the top court that Major Aditya's name was not in the FIR lodged against army personnel involved in the Shopian firing, The Times of India reported.

The court was hearing Lt Col (retd) Karamveer Singh's petition seeking to overturn the FIR against his son Major Aditya.

As per a report in India Today, the accused column in the FIR was missing and blank. However, Major Aditya's name was mentioned as the commanding officer in following paragraphs.

When the Top court asked if this implied that Major Aditya would not be named as s prime accused in future, the state government indicated it could not commend so.

"It depends on investigation," the Jammu and Kashmir government told the Supreme Court, according to NDTV.

On 27 January, three civilians were killed when army personnel fired at a stone-pelting crowd in Ganovpora village in Shopian, without delay Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to order an investigation into the incident.

The FIR was registered against personnel of 10 Garhwal Rifles, including Major Aditya, under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Ranbir Penal Code.
