Kota: Sri Krishna Birla, the father of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and MP of Kota-Bundi parliamentary constituency, died on Tuesday. 91-year-old Shri Krishna was unwell for the past few days. After his health worsened, Lok Sabha Speaker Birla postponed all programs on Tuesday. Shri krishna Birla  was a senior social worker of Kota and held many important positions in the 108 Officers' Assembly. 

Shri Krishna was born on 12 June 1929 in Kanwa, Kota. He completed his studies at Patanpol School and on 7 February 1949 he was married to Shakuntala Devi, a resident of Iklera. After passing the matriculation in 1950, he worked as an clerk in the Kanwas tehsil, but then he was appointed as a junior clerk in the Custom Excise Ministry of Kota. After his promotion to the post of department superintendent in 1976, he shifted to Jaipur, where he was promoted to OS First Grade. In 1986, he moved again to the Commercial Tax Ministry of Kota where he worked till 1988.

Shrikrishna Birla has been a vigilant of the interests of the employees during his service. From 1958 to 1961, he played the important responsibility of the District President of the Employees Union and was also imprisoned in the years 1963, 1971 and 1980, fighting for the interests of the employees. Even after being busy in state service, he had a deep association with the social sector. He was the President of Maheshwari Samaj 3 times and served as the President of Kota District Maheshwari Sabha for nearly 15 years.

Shri Krishna strengthened the cooperative by providing leading and competent leadership to the cooperative sector in Kota. He was the secretary of Kota Adhikari Cooperative Society Ltd. 108 R from the year 1963, and after working as the chairman of the committee for almost 26 years, he was successful in getting the Kota Employees Cooperative Society a new identity in Rajasthan. For this reason, he was also known as Sahkara Purush throughout Rajasthan.
